Hello, hello!

My name's Kristen Harding. I'm an arts and culture writer from South Africa. I run The Kulturalist, a blog about film, television, and the arts.

Who am I?

After racking up a few degrees in English Literature and Film Studies, I began sharing my love of and knowledge about movies, books, and the arts online.

Ever since, I've been writing cultural criticism essays and reviews for blogs, magazines, and social media. I'm especially into biographical films, movie adaptations, musicals, African cinema, and pretty much anything starring Amy Adams.

When I'm not watching, writing, or thinking about movies, you can find me wandering through second-hand books stores and art museums, engrossed in a live musical, or cozied up with a (probably depressing) book.

You can also find me hanging out on Bluesky and Threads (@bykristenharding)! Or drop me a message at thekulturalist@gmail.com.

What's this newsletter about?

The Kulturalist is where you'll find reviews and essays on film, television, and occasionally the wider world of arts and culture. Through this newsletter, I aim to spark in readers a deeper curiosity about and engagement with these storytelling.
